2005-2006 Monthly Meetings

Invited Speakers
From time to time throughout the year, the Section invites outside speakers to discuss social medicine topics.

January 16, 2007
David Spero, RN, the author of The Art of Getting Well When You Have Chronic Illness and Diabetes:  Sugar-coated Crisis, will discuss the social causes of diabetes and ways people and health systems have succeeded in promoting wellness in communities and society.  The meeting will be attended by physicians and nurse practitioners, diabetes educators, patients, and community activists. After Mr. Spero’s talk, participants will work on ways to join forces to create healthier environments, behaviors, and lives. This social movement approach to chronic illness is growing around the country.  To learn more about Mr. Spero, visit his website at www.davidsperorn.com.
